A lot of this reduction can be attributed to the new StediFLOW variable frequency drive motor, which can accommodate increases in pressure drops of up to 300% across the filter with almost no reduction in total air delivery.  One of our favorite features is the fold up front panel that allows for frontloading filters. For most biosafety cabinets, including older Baker units, removing the front panel is a time and labor-intensive activity. With the SG404, however, the front panel is hinged and swings up, similar to the hood of a car, allowing for quicker and easier HEPA filter replacement. As of this writing we still see some Baker SG400 models in the field – every now and then our certifiers will come across a unit that is older than they are. Will the Sterilgard 604s last this long? They are certainly quality built, as are all Baker products, with quality materials and a good design. If you’re purchasing a used biosafety cabinet without filters, there’s no way to know for sure that it works properly. If you’re buying a used biosafety cabinet with old filters, you may not be able to determine the age of the filters or safe operating time remaining, plus there are concerns of contamination.
