Frequently Asked Questions

What does F.O.B. Haverhill, MA mean?

F.O.B. (Free On Board) means that ownership and risk of the equipment transfers to the buyer once it leaves our facility in Haverhill, MA. The buyer is responsible for all shipping costs, insurance, and risks during transit from that point forward.

Why do you recommend using a freight-forwarder?

Freight-forwarders are experts in international shipping regulations and can ensure your equipment is packaged and documented correctly for import into your country. They handle customs clearance, documentation, and compliance with local regulations, which can be complex and vary by country.

Why isn't international shipping covered by warranty?

International shipments involve longer transit times, multiple handling points, and customs procedures that are outside our control. However, we thoroughly test all equipment to manufacturer specifications before shipment and provide complete test records to demonstrate functionality at the time of departure.

What documentation do you provide?

We provide comprehensive documentation including: test records showing equipment meets manufacturer specifications, photos of the equipment at all stages of packing, shipping manifests, and any additional documentation needed for customs clearance.

How is shipping to Canada different?

Canadian shipments have several advantages: warranty is applicable for most equipment categories, we can arrange LTL or air-ride freight directly, and transit times are typically shorter. However, you must provide customs broker information before shipment, and payment is required in full before shipping.

Who pays for import duties and taxes?

All taxes, duties, and other import fees are the responsibility of the customer. American Instrument Exchange will not pay or prepay these costs. We recommend consulting with your freight-forwarder or customs broker to estimate these costs before placing your order.
