The Baker EdgeGARD EGVF601 is a 6-foot vertical-flow recirculating clean bench designed to provide exceptional product protection for nonhazardous samples, materials, and procedures requiring stringent particulate control. Unlike conventional horizontal-flow clean benches, the EdgeGARD VF directs HEPA-filtered air vertically over the entire work surface, providing ISO Class 4 (Class 10) cleanliness within the work area.
With a spacious 70-inch-wide stainless-steel interior, 14-inch working access opening, specialized airflow design, and supporting stand, the EGVF601 provides a large contamination-controlled workspace for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, research, electronics, and other clean applications. Its vertical airflow configuration can be particularly useful for procedures involving taller equipment or workflows where horizontal airflow could be obstructed.
Available used and refurbished from American Instrument Exchange, this Baker EdgeGARD EGVF601 is inspected and tested before shipment and includes a 90-day warranty.

Overview
The Baker EdgeGARD EGVF601 uses a carefully controlled vertical airflow system to create an exceptionally clean environment for nonhazardous products and procedures. Room air enters through a prefilter at the top of the cabinet before being moved by the blower into the supply plenum and through the HEPA filter above the work area.
HEPA-filtered air then moves downward through the workspace at a nominal velocity of approximately 50–65 feet per minute. Most of this clean air travels vertically over the work surface before exiting through the front access opening, while a portion of the airflow is recirculated through the cabinet.
A distinctive element of Baker's design is its higher-velocity air curtain immediately behind the viewscreen. Baker specifies a nominal velocity of approximately 100 feet per minute in this area. High-velocity return slots along the work surface and side walls also help reduce the potential for contaminated room air to enter the clean workspace.
The result is an ISO Class 4 environment, historically referred to as Class 10, providing a higher air-cleanliness classification than the ISO Class 5 environment commonly specified for many general-purpose laminar flow clean benches.
Common Applications
The Baker EdgeGARD EGVF601 is intended for nonhazardous procedures where protecting samples, products, or processes from airborne particulate contamination is the primary objective. Applications can include sterile preparation procedures, nonhazardous pharmaceutical compounding, media preparation, plant and tissue culture, medical device assembly, electronics work, optical component handling, and other contamination-sensitive laboratory or manufacturing processes.
Vertical airflow can be particularly useful when procedures involve taller equipment, containers, or assemblies. Rather than moving horizontally from the rear of the cabinet toward the operator, filtered air descends from above, helping maintain clean airflow around vertically oriented equipment and procedures.
The large 70-inch-wide workspace also provides substantial room for multiple pieces of equipment, containers, and materials.
Ideal Laboratory Environments
The Baker EdgeGARD EGVF601 is well suited for pharmaceutical facilities, biotechnology laboratories, hospital and pharmacy environments performing appropriate nonhazardous work, medical device manufacturers, university research laboratories, tissue culture laboratories, electronics facilities, quality-control departments, and other contamination-sensitive environments.
Its six-foot work area makes it particularly useful for laboratories requiring considerably more room than a compact 3-foot or 4-foot clean bench provides.
The combination of a large work area and vertical airflow can also make the EGVF601 an attractive choice when taller instruments or equipment need to remain within the clean zone without substantially disrupting the primary airflow path.

Refurbishment & Testing
Used vertical-flow clean benches should be thoroughly evaluated before being returned to laboratory service. American Instrument Exchange technicians test the Baker EdgeGARD EGVF601 to verify proper operation of the controls and blower motor and evaluate the HEPA filter for suitability in laboratory conditions.
AIE's clean bench testing incorporates the major elements used during certification with the goal of preparing the unit to pass final testing following delivery and installation. The stainless-steel workspace, lighting, viewscreen, controls, blower system, filter-monitoring system, and overall cabinet condition are also inspected during the refurbishment process.
The clean bench is thoroughly cleaned before shipment. Customers can request photographs of the specific equipment included with their order after testing and cleaning have been completed.
This refurbished Baker EdgeGARD EGVF601 includes a 90-day warranty from American Instrument Exchange.
Certification Readiness & Service
Proper downflow velocity, airflow balance, and HEPA filter integrity are critical to maintaining the controlled environment expected from the EdgeGARD EGVF601. Baker's factory testing includes filter leak checks, electrical testing, downflow velocity measurements, smoke-pattern evaluation, and airflow balancing.
Following transportation and installation, the clean bench should be evaluated according to the laboratory's applicable procedures before being placed into critical service.
American Instrument Exchange works with AIE Laboratory Services to support clean benches and other laboratory airflow equipment throughout Greater Boston and New England. Services can include airflow testing, HEPA filter evaluation and replacement, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repair.
Final testing after relocation is particularly valuable because transportation, installation conditions, room airflow, and filter condition can affect clean bench performance.
Shipping & Installation
The Baker EdgeGARD EGVF601 is a large 6-foot clean bench measuring approximately 77.5 inches wide by 32 inches deep. With its supporting stand, the adjustable overall height is approximately 89.1 to 97.6 inches.
The cabinet itself is designed so that it can be moved through a standard 80-inch-high doorway, simplifying installation compared with equipment that must remain fully assembled during transport. The supporting stand can then be configured at the final installation location.
Laboratories should verify doorways, corridors, elevators, loading areas, ceiling height, and the final equipment location before delivery. The approximately 564-pound cabinet also requires appropriate material-handling equipment and delivery planning.
American Instrument Exchange can assist with freight coordination and provide additional dimensional information to help customers prepare for installation.
Related Equipment
Laboratories considering the Baker EdgeGARD EGVF601 can explore additional clean benches and laminar flow hoods available from American Instrument Exchange, including both horizontal- and vertical-flow configurations.
For applications involving infectious agents, biological hazards, or other materials requiring personnel and environmental containment, AIE also carries refurbished biosafety cabinets from Baker, Thermo Scientific, Labconco, Nuaire, and other major manufacturers.
The Baker EdgeGARD EGVF601 is a vertical-flow clean bench, not a biosafety cabinet. Its purpose is to protect nonhazardous samples, products, and processes from particulate contamination.
Although its airflow travels vertically rather than horizontally, the EdgeGARD VF does not provide personnel or environmental protection against biological, chemical, radiological, or other hazardous substances. Baker specifically warns against using the cabinet for hazardous work.
Laboratories working with infectious agents or other materials requiring biological containment should instead select an appropriate Class II biosafety cabinet.
For nonhazardous applications where product cleanliness and particulate control are the primary objectives, a clean bench or laminar flow hood such as the EdgeGARD EGVF601 may provide the appropriate working environment.
Baker EdgeGARD EGVF601 Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Baker EdgeGARD EGVF601?
The EGVF601 is a nominal 6-foot vertical-flow recirculating clean bench designed to protect nonhazardous products and procedures from airborne particulate contamination.
What cleanliness classification does the EGVF601 provide?
Baker specifies ISO Class 4, historically referred to as Class 10, air cleanliness for 0.5 µm particles within the work area.
