Nuaire NU-430-600 Class II Type B2 6' biological safety cabinet
The Nuaire NU-430-600 Class II Type B2 biological safety cabinet is a total exhaust cabinet.
Widely used in toxicology laboratories and other applications in which chemical effluent is present and clean air is essential, the Nuaire NU-430-600 recirculates 0% air, as the exhausted air is pulled through a dedicated exhaust duct into the facility exhaust system. (In other words, hard ducted to outside the facility, similar to a chemical fume hood.)
Nuaire NU-430-600 biological safety cabinet features
- Class II Type B2 total exhaust bio safety cabinet
- 6’ wide model (78” exterior, 70” work surface)
- Microprocessor controller
- Stand, power cord and manual included
- 90 day warranty
The entire cabinet shell and all internal plenums and structures on the Nuaire NU-430-600 are constructed from Type 304 stainless steel for increased chemical resistance to acids/solvents which are normally used in applications which require a fume hood.
Nuaire NU-430-600 testing
Unless otherwise specified all biosafety cabinets come with new HEPA filters installed by our technicians at our facility prior to shipment.
Limit testing procedures for B2 biosafety cabinets. We cannot replicate external ducting. We recommend that you contact the manufacturer and certifier (or whoever will be overseeing the installation) to ensure that this B2 total exhaust biosafety cabinet is right for your application, and compatible with your facility.

NuAire NU-430-600 Biosafety Cabinet – Frequently Asked Questions
What does “Class II, Type B2” mean? What's the difference between that and a Type A2 model?
A Class II Type B2 cabinet:
- Provides triple protection (personnel, product, environment)
- Exhausts 100% of air externally (no recirculation)
- Is suitable for toxic chemicals, radionuclides, and infectious agents
Class II Type A2 units are much more commonly found in working laboratories. The Type A2 model is a 70%/30% recirculating set up, with air flow passing through the dual HEPA filters and recirculating back into the lab. Ducting is not required for Class II Type A2 models.
What applications is the Nuaire NU-430-600 cabinet used for?
Common uses include:
- Microbiology and virology work
- Pharmaceutical compounding (USP <797>/<800>)
- Handling hazardous drugs
- Work involving volatile toxic chemicals
Type B2 biosafety cabinets are commonly used in microbiology and virology labs, pharmaceutical compounding (USP <797> / <800>), toxicology and chemical handling, and research involving hazardous drugs or volatile compounds. The 100% exhaust design makes them especially valuable when chemical vapors must be safely removed from the environment to protect lab personnel.
What utilities are required for set up and installation of the Nuaire 430-600?
Typical setup may include:
- Electrical connection
- Exhaust duct connection
- Optional gas and plumbing services
These are necessary for installation per facility and manufacturer specifications.
What is the “safe working area” inside this Nuaire BSC?
The safe working area is the zone inside the cabinet where:
- Airflow is uniform and laminar
- Contamination risk is minimized
Users should perform all work within this defined zone in order to maintain the safe conditions provided by the hood.
What does “Class II Type B2” mean?
A Class II Type B2 biosafety cabinet:
- Provides triple protection (user, sample, environment)
- Uses laminar airflow with HEPA filtration
- Exhausts 100% of air outside the building (no recirculation)
- Is suitable for toxic chemicals, radionuclides, and biohazards
Compared to A2 cabinets, B2 units are ideal when working with volatile chemicals or hazardous drug compounds.
Does the Nuaire 430-600 require ducting?
Yes. This is a hard-ducted biosafety cabinet that must be connected to an external exhaust system. Because it exhausts 100% of air outside, proper HVAC integration is critical for safe operation, certification compliance, and maintaining airflow balance. Please note that this unit cannot be repurposed as an A2 model to operate without ducting – built in safety features will not allow the fan motor to operate without duct connection.
What is included when purchasing a refurbished unit?
Refurbished Nuaire 430-600 cabinets from American Instrument Exchange typically include:
- New or tested HEPA filters
- Full mechanical and electrical inspection
- Cleaning and decontamination
- Performance testing
- Power cord, stand, and accessories (when applicable)
How are used biosafety cabinets tested and certified?
Each unit undergoes a multi-step refurbishment and testing process, including:
- HEPA filter integrity
- Airflow velocity and balance verification
- Smoke pattern testing for containment
- Electrical and alarm system checks
- Final performance validation
This ensures the cabinet operates to manufacturer specifications and safety standards. Because B2 units must be connected to ducting our testing procedures differ from the typical standards we use for A2 models. Please contact our sales team for more information.
Why choose a refurbished Nuaire 430-600 over a new unit?
Purchasing a refurbished unit offers:
- Significant cost savings vs. new equipment
- Proven performance after testing and certification
- Faster availability compared to factory lead times
- Sustainability through equipment reuse
Refurbished cabinets from reputable vendors provide lab-ready performance at a fraction of the cost.
What should I consider before purchasing this cabinet?
Before buying, ensure:
- Your facility can support external ducting requirements
- You have access to certification services upon installation
- The cabinet meets your application needs (especially chemical use)
For B2 cabinets, coordination with your facility engineer and certifier is strongly recommended.
Can I request a quote or check availability?
Yes. Even if the unit is out of stock, American Instrument Exchange can:
