Nuaire LabGard NU-540-400 4’ Class II, Type A2 Biosafety Cabinet
The Nuaire LabGard NU-540-400 features a DC ECM motor to economize energy while distributing laminar airflow through a flexible plenum and offering enough power to overcome HEPA filter loading and minimize filter changes. This design provides the user with a work zone whose side and back walls are constructed from a single piece of stainless steel for enhanced containment and easy cleanability.

Fluorescent lighting illuminates the procedure inside the cabinet while a dished work tray traps liquid spills and a cord-pass through in the side wall facilitates the use of small electrical devices in the work area.
Users easily monitor cabinet performance through the Aeromax control system that displays the pressure in the cabinet’s internal airflow plenum. It visualizes airflow plenum pressure through a series of multicolored lights and activates both an audible and visual alarm whenever cabinet performance departs from normal parameters.
Nuaire LabGard NU-540-400 testing
Our technicians test each bio safety cabinet to ensure that the controls and blower motor work properly. Unless otherwise specified all bio safety cabinets come with new HEPA filters installed by our technicians at our facility prior to shipment. Our testing procedure includes all the elements of a bio safety cabinet certification. This ensures that the unit will pass certification once it is at your site.

Nuaire LabGard NU-540-400 4’ Class II, Type A2 Biosafety Cabinet Specifications
Q: Does this cabinet meet industry safety standards?
A: Yes, the Nuaire NU-540-400 complies with NSF/ANSI Standard 49 requirements for Class II biosafety cabinets, which govern containment performance and airflow safety.
Q: What’s the big deal about installing new HEPA filters? Can’t I just save money and do this myself?
A: New filters for a Nuaire biosafety cabinet, plus the cost of installation, can total anywhere from $2,000 to $3,500 or more, depending on your location and what your certifier charges for installation. We install new HEPA filters in every biosafety cabinet and clean bench prior to shipment. If you’re purchasing a used biosafety cabinet without filters, there’s no way to know for sure that it works properly.
If you’re buying a used biosafety cabinet with old filters, you may not be able to determine the age of the filters or safe operating time remaining, plus there are concerns of contamination. Installing new filters is the best way for us to guarantee that each biosafety cabinet works to specification and completely decontaminated.
We STRONGLY recommend that user do not attempt to replace on install filters on their own for several reasons. First, gas decontamination is complicated and potentially dangerous/deadly and should be performed by a trained professional. Second, HEPA filters are costly and can be damaged easily by inexperienced installation.
Q: How does the airflow system work?
A: The NU-540-400 uses a DC ECM motor and a flexible plenum to maintain consistent laminar airflow. Approximately 70% of air is recirculated through a HEPA supply filter while about 30% is exhausted through a HEPA exhaust filter, typical for Class II Type A2 designs.
Q: Can I work with chemical fumes or hazardous vapors in this cabinet?
A: No, absolutely not. Class II Type A2 cabinets are not designed to contain hazardous chemical vapors unless externally vented. They are optimized for biological particulate containment. For work with significant chemical fumes, you need dedicated chemical fume hoods or Type B2 biosafety cabinets.
