Overview

The Thermo Scientific Haake A45HC/AC200 combines a powerful refrigeration system with the advanced temperature-control capabilities of the AC200 controller.

Unlike standard refrigerated circulating baths that typically operate to approximately -10°C or -25°C, the A45HC can achieve temperatures as low as -45°C. This extended low-temperature capability makes it especially valuable for research and industrial laboratories conducting subzero experiments, temperature-dependent chemical reactions, and materials testing.

The AC200 controller provides precise digital temperature regulation and advanced programming capabilities, allowing users to establish temperature setpoints and controlled heating or cooling profiles.

The stainless-steel bath provides approximately 7–12 L of working fluid volume. Compatible samples, vessels, sensors, and test components can be placed directly into the temperature-controlled bath.

The system also supports external circulation through compatible laboratory equipment. Temperature-controlled fluid can be circulated through jacketed reactors, condensers, heat exchangers, analytical instruments, and other closed-loop applications.

The A45HC's combination of low-temperature refrigeration, elevated-temperature heating, and advanced controller functionality makes it a versatile alternative to maintaining separate heating and cooling systems.

Common Applications

The Thermo Scientific Haake A45HC/AC200 is designed for laboratory applications requiring precise temperature control across an exceptionally broad operating range. Common uses include chemical synthesis, jacketed reactor temperature regulation, materials testing, viscosity measurements, sample conditioning, crystallization studies, condenser cooling, analytical instrument temperature control, and process development.

Its -45°C minimum operating temperature makes it particularly useful for low-temperature chemistry and experimental procedures requiring subzero thermal conditions.

For direct-bath applications, compatible laboratory vessels, samples, probes, and test components can be immersed in the stainless-steel reservoir. Continuous circulation helps distribute thermal energy throughout the bath.

For external applications, temperature-controlled fluid can be circulated through jacketed reaction vessels, condensers, and other compatible laboratory equipment.

The AC200 controller's programmable temperature-control capabilities are particularly useful for applications requiring controlled temperature changes, repeatable thermal profiles, or extended experimental procedures.

Ideal Laboratory Types

The Thermo Scientific Haake A45HC/AC200 is well suited for pharmaceutical research laboratories, biotechnology facilities, organic and synthetic chemistry laboratories, materials-science departments, analytical laboratories, industrial research facilities, process-development groups, quality-control laboratories, and academic research institutions.

Laboratories performing low-temperature chemical reactions or materials testing may find the A45HC especially useful because of its ability to operate substantially below the temperature limits of conventional refrigerated baths.

Its advanced controller also makes it appropriate for facilities conducting repeatable thermal experiments or procedures requiring programmed temperature changes.

Performance & Temperature Stability

The Thermo Scientific Haake A45HC/AC200 provides controlled heating and refrigeration across a -45°C to +200°C temperature range.

The integrated refrigeration system provides approximately 900 W of cooling capacity at +20°C. Available cooling capacity decreases as operating temperature approaches the lower end of the system's range.

Consequently, the maximum 900 W rating should not be interpreted as the available cooling capacity at -45°C. Laboratories with significant continuous heat loads should evaluate refrigeration performance at their intended operating temperature.

The AC200 controller uses advanced digital temperature regulation to manage heating, refrigeration, and circulation. Its programming capabilities allow users to establish temperature profiles appropriate for experimental procedures requiring controlled temperature changes.

The stainless-steel reservoir and integrated circulation pump work together to distribute temperature-controlled fluid throughout the bath, helping reduce thermal gradients and improve temperature consistency.

For applications approaching either end of the temperature range, the correct heat-transfer fluid is essential. Water alone is unsuitable for the complete -45°C to +200°C range.

Circulation & Pump Performance

The A45HC/AC200 features a force/suction circulation pump designed to support both internal bath circulation and external temperature-control applications.

The pump provides maximum pressure-side flow of approximately 24 L/min, maximum suction-side flow of approximately 20 L/min, and maximum discharge pressure of approximately 560 mbar.

This circulation capability allows the A45HC to supply conditioned fluid to compatible jacketed vessels, condensers, analytical instruments, and other laboratory equipment.

Actual flow through an external system will depend on tubing diameter, hose length, fittings, fluid viscosity, operating temperature, and hydraulic resistance.

When selecting the A45HC for external temperature control, laboratories should compare both the required thermal load and the hydraulic requirements of the connected equipment with the circulator's capabilities.

Refurbishment & Testing

This used Thermo Scientific Haake A45HC/AC200 Refrigerated/Heated Circulator is refurbished and tested by American Instrument Exchange before shipment.

Our technicians inspect the refrigeration system, compressor, condenser, heating elements, circulation pump, stainless-steel reservoir, AC200 controller, display, temperature sensor, fluid connections, electrical components, and applicable safety systems.

Temperature-controlled equipment is tested using NIST-traceable probes and data loggers. The A45HC/AC200 can be operated at multiple temperatures to evaluate refrigeration performance, heating capability, circulation, controller response, and temperature regulation.

The reservoir and accessible fluid-contact components are cleaned and inspected before shipment.

Customers purchasing the A45HC for a specific low-temperature application, jacketed reactor, or external circulation system are encouraged to provide their operating requirements before shipment. When practical, American Instrument Exchange can incorporate customer-requested operating conditions into final testing.

A 90-day warranty is included.

Shipping & Installation

The Thermo Scientific Haake A45HC/AC200 weighs approximately 115 lb and should be transported with the bath drained and the refrigeration system properly protected. American Instrument Exchange prepares the unit for commercial shipment with appropriate protection for the controller, compressor, refrigeration components, stainless-steel reservoir, housing, and fluid connections.

The A45HC uses R290 refrigerant, a flammable hydrocarbon refrigerant. Installation, handling, and service should follow the manufacturer's safety requirements, including precautions regarding ignition sources and ventilation.

The unit should be installed on a stable, level surface with adequate airflow around the refrigeration system.

After installation, the reservoir should be filled with an appropriate heat-transfer fluid selected for the intended operating temperature. Particular attention should be paid to fluid compatibility for applications below 0°C or above 100°C.

External circulation tubing should be rated for the intended temperature and pressure and securely connected before operation.

Electrical requirements should be confirmed against the individual unit's nameplate before connecting power.
