Thermo Scientific Precision PR505755R Refrigerated Incubator

Many laboratory procedures require temperatures below ambient while maintaining the precision and stability expected of a research-grade incubator. Whether performing biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) testing, culturing environmental microorganisms, conducting food quality studies, or evaluating seed germination, laboratories depend on consistent low-temperature incubation to produce accurate and reproducible results. The Thermo Scientific Precision PR505755R Refrigerated Incubator is designed specifically for these applications, combining a spacious 20 cubic foot (566 L) chamber with dependable refrigeration, microprocessor controls, and forced-air air circulation for reliable performance across an operating range of -10°C to +50°C.

Unlike conventional incubators that only provide heating, the PR505755R integrates both refrigeration and heating into a single system, allowing laboratories to maintain stable environmental conditions for a wide variety of microbiological and environmental testing protocols. Its large-capacity chamber accommodates more than 300 standard 300 mL BOD bottles, while features including programmable controls, over- and undertemperature protection, RS-232 communication capability, and corrosion-resistant construction make it an excellent solution for environmental, industrial, and research laboratories. Purchasing a refurbished Thermo Scientific Precision PR505755R from American Instrument Exchange provides an economical alternative to purchasing new while delivering the dependable performance laboratories expect from Thermo Scientific equipment.

Designed for Refrigerated Laboratory Incubation

Many laboratory protocols require temperatures well below room temperature while maintaining stable environmental conditions throughout extended incubation periods. The PR505755R was engineered to satisfy these requirements by combining precision refrigeration and heating into a single platform. This flexibility allows laboratories to perform refrigerated microbiological studies, BOD testing, environmental analysis, and elevated-temperature incubation without changing equipment.

A microprocessor controller continuously monitors chamber conditions using an RTD temperature sensor while forced-air circulation distributes conditioned air evenly throughout the chamber. This design promotes excellent temperature stability and uniformity across every shelf position, helping ensure that samples receive consistent incubation conditions regardless of their placement inside the chamber.

Common Applications

The Thermo Scientific Precision PR505755R is commonly used for:

  • Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) testing

  • Water and wastewater analysis

  • Environmental microbiology

  • Food safety and quality testing

  • Beverage microbiology

  • Seed germination studies

  • Plant physiology research

  • Entomology

  • Aquatic organism studies

  • Pharmaceutical quality control

  • Industrial quality assurance

  • Academic microbiology research

Laboratories frequently pair refrigerated incubators like the PR505755R with laboratory refrigerators for media storage, ultralow temperature freezers for long-term sample preservation, biosafety cabinets for aseptic sample preparation, and benchtop centrifuges to support complete microbiology and environmental testing workflows.

Ideal Laboratory Environments

The PR505755R is an excellent choice for municipal water and wastewater laboratories, environmental testing facilities, food and beverage quality control laboratories, agricultural research centers, pharmaceutical quality assurance laboratories, public health laboratories, university microbiology departments, and industrial research organizations. Its large-capacity chamber makes it particularly attractive for laboratories processing high sample volumes or conducting multiple long-term incubation studies simultaneously.

Optimized for High-Volume BOD Testing

One of the defining advantages of the PR505755R is its exceptional capacity for biochemical oxygen demand testing. With room for more than 300 standard 300 mL BOD bottles, laboratories can process large testing batches within a single incubator while maintaining consistent environmental conditions throughout the chamber. This improves workflow efficiency, reduces the need for multiple incubators, and helps ensure comparable incubation conditions across every sample.

The spacious interior is equally well suited for petri dishes, culture bottles, flasks, environmental samples, and other laboratory containers. Four adjustable shelves are supplied as standard, with the option to expand to six shelves as laboratory throughput increases. RS-232 communication capability also allows laboratories to document chamber performance for quality assurance and regulatory compliance.

Performance and Temperature Uniformity

Consistent temperature control is essential for microbiological testing, environmental studies, and quality control applications where even small fluctuations can influence experimental results. The Thermo Scientific Precision PR505755R utilizes a microprocessor-based control system and precision RTD temperature sensor to maintain accurate chamber temperatures throughout the operating range. Combined with a forced-air circulation system, conditioned air is distributed evenly across every shelf position, helping minimize temperature gradients within the chamber.

Unlike passive convection incubators, forced-air circulation allows the PR505755R to recover more quickly following door openings while maintaining excellent temperature uniformity during extended incubation periods. This level of environmental stability is particularly valuable for laboratories conducting long-term BOD testing, microbiological culture work, and environmental monitoring programs where repeatability is critical.

Typical Samples and Culture Applications

The Thermo Scientific Precision PR505755R is designed to support a broad range of refrigerated laboratory applications. Its spacious chamber accommodates standard BOD bottles, petri dishes, Erlenmeyer flasks, culture tubes, media bottles, environmental water samples, food products, plant materials, seed trays, and a variety of laboratory containers used in microbiological and environmental testing.

Researchers commonly use refrigerated incubators such as the PR505755R for bacterial and fungal culture, environmental microbiology, water quality analysis, food safety testing, seed germination, aquatic biology studies, entomology research, and pharmaceutical quality assurance. The wide operating temperature range also provides flexibility for laboratories performing both refrigerated incubation and moderate elevated-temperature protocols within a single instrument.
