VWR SCUCFS-0420 Freestanding Undercounter Laboratory Freezer

Efficient laboratory workflows depend on having frequently used materials close at hand. The VWR SCUCFS-0420 Freestanding Undercounter Laboratory Freezer provides dependable frozen storage in a compact footprint, making it an excellent choice for laboratories that need convenient access to reagents, standards, quality control materials, and research samples without dedicating space to a full-size upright freezer.

With 4 cubic feet of storage capacity and an adjustable operating temperature range of -15°C to -25°C, the SCUCFS-0420 is well suited for biotechnology laboratories, pharmaceutical facilities, universities, hospitals, environmental testing laboratories, and industrial quality control departments. Its freestanding design allows it to fit comfortably beneath laboratory work surfaces or beside analytical equipment, keeping frozen materials within easy reach while maximizing valuable laboratory space.

Many laboratories pair an undercounter freezer like the SCUCFS-0420 with laboratory refrigerators for refrigerated media and reagents, larger laboratory freezers for bulk frozen storage, ultralow freezers for long-term biological preservation, and biosafety cabinets to create efficient laboratory workstations.

VWR SCUCFS-0420 Overview

The SCUCFS-0420 was designed for laboratories requiring dependable frozen storage without unnecessary complexity. Rather than incorporating advanced electronic controls and monitoring systems, this freezer emphasizes reliability, ease of operation, and cost-effective performance for everyday laboratory applications.

Its freestanding cabinet is ideal for laboratories where frozen materials need to remain close to the workspace. The drawer-based interior helps organize samples while minimizing the amount of cold air lost during retrieval, making routine access more efficient throughout the workday. Because this model is designed for freestanding installation, adequate ventilation around the cabinet helps ensure consistent cooling performance and long equipment life.

  • Laboratory reagents

  • PCR reagents

  • Restriction enzymes

  • Antibodies

  • Buffers

  • Laboratory standards

  • Pharmaceutical products

  • Environmental testing samples

  • Quality control materials

  • Research specimens requiring -20°C storage

Its compact footprint makes it especially useful in laboratories where dedicated frozen storage is needed directly within the work area.

Ideal Laboratory Types

The SCUCFS-0420 is well suited for:

  • Biotechnology laboratories

  • Pharmaceutical laboratories

  • Academic research laboratories

  • Clinical laboratories

  • Environmental testing laboratories

  • Industrial quality control laboratories

  • Government laboratories

  • Teaching laboratories

Laboratories requiring dependable frozen storage for routine research materials will appreciate the freezer's compact size, straightforward controls, and reliable performance.

Workflow & Space Efficiency

Keeping frequently used frozen materials close to the laboratory bench improves efficiency by reducing trips to centralized cold storage. The SCUCFS-0420's compact footprint fits comfortably beneath laboratory countertops while the four pull-out drawers simplify sample organization and retrieval.

The manual defrost refrigeration system also eliminates the warming cycles associated with automatic defrost freezers, making it a practical choice for many temperature-sensitive laboratory reagents while providing dependable long-term operation.

Typical Stored Materials

The VWR SCUCFS-0420 is commonly used to store PCR reagents, restriction enzymes, antibodies, laboratory standards, pharmaceutical compounds, environmental samples, research reagents, buffers requiring frozen storage, quality control materials, and other frozen laboratory supplies maintained between -15°C and -25°C.

Applications requiring storage below -80°C, including stem cells, long-term tissue preservation, and cell banking, are better suited for dedicated ultralow freezers or cryogenic storage systems.

Refurbishment & Testing Process

Every VWR SCUCFS-0420 received by American Instrument Exchange undergoes a comprehensive inspection and performance evaluation before shipment. Our technicians verify temperature accuracy using calibrated digital probes, inspect the refrigeration system, test the thermostat, evaluate the door gasket and locking mechanism, inspect the storage drawers, replace worn components as necessary, and thoroughly clean the freezer before delivery.

Laboratories outfitting complete cold storage systems frequently purchase laboratory refrigerators, laboratory freezers, ultralow freezers, biosafety cabinets, and centrifuges from American Instrument Exchange.

Shipping & Installation Considerations

The VWR SCUCFS-0420 ships by freight from American Instrument Exchange. Before delivery, laboratories should verify available undercounter space, electrical service, doorway clearances, and adequate ventilation around the cabinet. Because this model is designed for freestanding installation, sufficient airflow around the sides and rear of the cabinet is essential for dependable long-term operation.

Testing Procedures for Used and Refurbished Laboratory Freezers

Cold Storage Reliability from American Instrument Exchange

At American Instrument Exchange, every used and refurbished laboratory freezer we offer undergoes a comprehensive multi-point testing protocol to ensure optimal performance, temperature stability, and long-term reliability. Our rigorous testing procedures are designed to meet the demanding standards of biomedical, pharmaceutical, research, and clinical environments—so you can trust your freezer to protect your valuable samples and materials.

Why Testing Refurbished Laboratory Freezers Is Critical

Before any laboratory freezer is placed back into service, it must be carefully tested for:

  • Consistent temperature control and uniformity across internal zones
  • Compressor functionality and refrigeration system performance
  • Seal integrity and insulation efficiency to prevent temperature loss
  • Electrical safety and alarm system operation

Thorough testing minimizes the risk of temperature excursions, equipment failure, and product loss—especially for temperature-sensitive items like reagents, biological samples, and vaccines.

Our structured testing protocol ensures that all used and refurbished laboratory freezers meet or exceed manufacturer specifications and industry expectations.
