The Thermo Scientific MaxQ 4000 Benchtop Incubated Shaker combines the convenience of a benchtop design with orbital shaking technology in one package.Versatile, incubated and refrigerated, these shakers are ideal for cell culture, solubility studies, extraction procedures, protein expression and many other applications. They are spacious chambers in a footprint designed for the benchtop.
The MaxQ 4000 features a clear lid that allows you to view samples without disturbing internal temperature; solid state DC brushless motor, variable speed control from 15 to 500 rpm, and continuous and timed operation from 0.1 hour up to 999 hours or 0.1 minute to 999 minutes; and displayed time that counts up during continuous operation and down during timed runs.
It also has the ability to view speed, operating time and temperature simultaneously on 3 individual LED displays which helps minimize errors in establishing running conditions; and visual/audible signals alert you to temperature deviations.
For additional safety, the heat turns off if temperature deviates ±1°C of set point; the shaker shuts down and audible/visual alarms signal if unit operates ±10% of set speed preventing shaker from walking.
The over temperature safety feature with independent thermostat provides additional backup by controlling heat if main temperature controller fails; and the safety interlock stops platform motion when the lid is open.
The IMaxQ 4000 Benchtop Incubated Shaker is used and reconditioned. We test the shaking mechanism for extended periods of time to make sure all set points operate on continuous setting. If the shaker is incubated, we use an external digital probe to verify the temperature displayed is accurate.
While we can’t test for a specific analytical application, we will do our best to simulate the typical operating conditions. If you have specific testing requirements or requests, please inform us. We will gladly work with you to ensure these requirements are addressed during testing.

What applications is the Thermo Scientific MaxQ 4000 used for?
The Thermo Scientific MaxQ 4000 is a benchtop orbital incubated shaker designed for laboratory use. It can mix and incubate samples simultaneously under controlled temperature and shaking conditions. Typical laboratory applications include cell culture growth, bacterial or yeast cultivation, protein expression, plasmid purification, hybridization and washing procedures and solubility and extraction studies
The system combines orbital shaking with an incubator chamber, allowing cultures to remain aerated and evenly mixed while maintaining a stable temperature environment. It’s a compact, cost-effective option for labs looking for an incubator shaker that is not only a good financial investment but will also fit into a small lab without taking up too much valuable benchtop or floor space.
What temperature range does the incubated shaker support?
Temperature capability depends on the configuration:
These clamshell style incubators do not hold as tightly as some chambers that offer a tighter seal and suffer less thermal loss, so users will see variability of temperature throughout the chamber. Please contact our sales team for more information.
What routine maintenance does the MaxQ 4000 require?
Typical maintenance practices include:
Routine maintenance helps maintain stable temperature control and smooth shaking performance. It will also help to prevent contamination as well as staining and other cosmetic degradation.
Yes, all equipment from American Instrument Exchange comes with a warranty.
Used/reconditioned/refurbished equipment is tested to make sure it operates to the manufacturer's specifications and comes with a 90-day warranty (unless otherwise noted). New equipment comes with a warranty from the manufacturer.
Testing requirements vary across all the equipment categories we sell. Temperature controlled units are tested with NIST traceable probes and data loggers. Gaskets, external housing, glass, handles, controls and control screens are all thoroughly inspected for integrity and functionality.
We test all equipment using the manufacturer's parameters and specifications to confirm that the unit operates properly.
We can ship products both nationally and internationally using a well-established network of transporters. Smaller items will ship via UPS. Larger equipment will be palletized and shipped either LTL or air-ride, depending on the specific equipment and/or delivery requirements.
American Instrument Exchange will accept the return of any product that is not working as represented and could not be replaced or repaired to the customer's satisfaction during the warranty period. Customers who cancel orders after refurbishing has begun will be subject to a cancellation and restocking fee of between 20% and 40%.
