Modify six standard preset and 10 user-defined (20 steps each) freezing profiles for custom protocols to meet application needs with Thermo Scientific CryoMed Controlled-Rate Freezer. This is a complete, one-piece freezing system. Assembling and connecting electrical components has been eliminated with an integrated control panel and thermal printer. Chamber and sample temperatures and operation status simultaneously display on backlit LCD.
Chamber temperature is monitored by fixed-mount Type T thermocouple. Pre-Cool step automatically begins temperature ramp when chamber and sample temperatures are equilibrated within 1°C. Audible indicators alert operator when hold time has elapsed. Operation continues if power outage lasts less than 10 seconds; audible/visual alarm sounds if outages last longer than 10 seconds.
The Thermo CryoMed Controlled-Rate Freezer features dual solenoid valves that increase LN2 injection volume for precise temperature control and accelerated freezing for optimum cell viability. Specially designed air handling system and liquid nitrogen ring that work in tandem for precise temperature control and uniformity. Overtemperature protection on heating element; and type 304 stainless-steel construction with a powder-coated exterior.

Most of the equipment we sell is used and reconditioned. Our technicians test all equipment to confirm that it operates properly and to the manufacturer’s specifications. While we can’t test for a specific analytical application, we will do our best to simulate the conditions under which the equipment will be run.
If you have particular testing requirements or requests, please let us know and we’ll work with you to make sure these requirements are addressed during testing.
The photos above are representative. The equipment shown is currently in storage in our warehouse and that in addition to testing each machine we will clean all the equipment thoroughly prior to shipment.
We often have multiple units of each model in stock and sometimes we're unable to feature photos of every single unit. At your request, we can provide photos of the equipment in your order after it has been tested and cleaned.

Q: Do you connect the Thermo CryoMed to liquid nitrogen to test this unit?
A: Yes, we regularly have LN2 tanks delivered to our ship to test both CryoMed units and CryoPlus liquid nitrogen freezers. To test the Thermo CryoMed units we connect to an LN2 source and run the pre-set freezing profiles to make sure that the unit runs through the parameters correctly.
Q: What’s the difference between a Thermo CryoMed and a Thermo CryoPlus?
A: Thermo Cryomed Controlled rate freezers are designed precise control of the freezing rate helping minimize the detrimental effects of undercooling and the heat liberated during the phase change process from water to ice. In other words, controlled rate freezers are refrigeration systems that freeze a material at a perfect rate and temperature in order to prevent crystal forming – and thus damage.
CryoPlus units, on the other hand, are designed for both short term and long-term storage of samples at temperatures down to -180C. So similar to an ultralow freezer, but using liquid nitrogen as a cooling agent for lower temperature storage.
Q: Are your technicians able to set this unit up in the lab?
A: For customers in Greater Boston and New England our field service technicians are available to install these units, provided that you have liquid nitrogen available on site. If not, please let us know and we can recommend vendors for delivery of LN2.
For customers outside of New England, we’re happy to provide instructions for installation as well as limited technical support by phone and/or email during installation.
Q: What racks are included with this unit?
A: See the product pictures and description above for information on included accessories. If you are looking for a specific accessory package please call or email our sales team.

Used/reconditioned/refurbished equipment is tested to make sure it operates to the manufacturer's specifications and comes with a 90-day warranty (unless otherwise noted). New equipment comes with a warranty from the manufacturer.
Testing requirements vary across all the equipment categories we sell. Temperature controlled units are tested with NIST traceable probes and data loggers. Gaskets, external housing, glass, handles, controls and control screens are all thoroughly inspected for integrity and functionality.
We test all equipment using the manufacturer's parameters and specifications to confirm that the unit operates properly.
We can ship products both nationally and internationally using a well-established network of transporters. Smaller items will ship via UPS. Larger equipment will be palletized and shipped either LTL or air-ride, depending on the specific equipment and/or delivery requirements.
